Picacho Country Club

There are some nice venues in Las Cruces for weddings and receptions. I was fortunate enough to photograph the reception of Joni & Shawn at the Picacho Hills Country Club. I was worried at first though cause I had brought along my “travel studio” which includes a light, background and some other accessories. It is quite bulky and takes up space which wasn’t readily available until some helpful staff members let me take over an entire unused room and the studio was up and running! Alls well that ends well!

Yellow Belt

I finally cleaned up my house AND the studio. You know a nice clean space is a great space for creativity and work. My daughter got her Yellow Belt recently in karate and was very proud. I kept promising her a photo shoot of her achievement and tonight we made it happen! It was just a quick few pics in the studio before bedtime, this was her (and my) favorite! I am very proud of her! :)

Watching the man who watched the watchmen?

So an awesome photographer from NYC is visiting Las Cruces it seems, he has been on tour. He did most the photography on the set of “the Watchmen” and has been involved in various other movies as well. Not often our small town gets visited by greatness but hey I look forward to what images (if any) he makes and how he sees the area. I was lucky enough in 2007 to chat with him and hear about his work as a professional photographer photographing everything from the mundane, to the celebrities even right down to random passer-bys. Welcome to Las Cruces Clay!

Valentine’s Day

So every year, the Mesilla Valley Casa has their annual Valentine’s Day banquet. I was again fortunate enough to document the event for them this year. They had some fun entertainment (Michael Finney was there, a hilarious magic act!), and it is for a great cause. MVC are advocates for kids in the foster care system. So I love when this banquet descends upon Las Cruces and I get to photograph the event. So a few pics from the event…

Your number was wrong!

So this is a long shot, but I recently had someone leave a message on my voice mail inquiring about my package prices. I love messages, emails, everything. I respond to them with what I like to think is ‘the quickness’. The only problem with this particular message is that the return number left for me to call back is not working. Says it is not in service or has been changed. :/ I don’t like the idea that someone out there may be thinking I blew them off :( . So if you read this, please call again and leave me a number where I will gladly get back to you! :)

Building Walking

I was fortunate enough to be contacted by Hubbell Building Automation, Inc.   They totally tricked out the new Las Cruces City hall and I got to walk the new building taking photographs of their products that are used  within the building.  There is certainly a different approach to taking photos of inanimate objects over people because they just never seem to smile!  But I love the non-breakneck speed that one can take to product application photography.  I would love to book more commercial work, this was quite a fun assignment!

On the longer weekends it is customary for me and a bunch of friends to pile into a car and just drive off with only a vague destination in mind.  New Mexico is great like that, and one doesn’t have to travel far from Las Cruces to get a total change in scenery.  It also makes for some great photographic moments.  One of these days I promise myself I will take my 4×5 large format camera and really get some serious landscape photos.  Though this time I just went with my trusty canon and my point and shoot, of which I used the point and shoot much more.  It just is more convenient.  So enjoy the pictures from the little boondoggle this weekend and I hope everyone had a great MLK Jr. Day!

For those of you who have seen the engagement section on my webpage, you may remember a sweet couple up there! I had the honor of taking their engagement photos and then later in December was honored again for doing some maternity photos.  I was just informed that they had their baby boy so I think a big congratulations is in order! Maybe if you all are in Las Cruces, family photos will be in order! Or perhaps I can just schlep all my photo gear over to you all and get some lovely photos of the new addition to your family! :)

Is Film Dead?

November 3, 2009 | Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

I have been really itching to do some film photography again. No good cause has arisen yet. I did have a large format project to photograph Las Cruces at night in various settings, but until I can make a way to easily develop large format negatives in my bathroom that will have to hold. I do love the process of film, taking an image from the freshly opened pack of film to a finished and washed fiber based print is just an awesome experience. Very time consuming ones. When I photograph weddings here in Las Cruces I usually shoot digital, but once I would love a bride to request Film. Man to spend some time in the darkroom on a one of a kind print for a bride would be a lovely treat and art at its best. So some images I have taken only semi-recently with my Seagull TLR and my Bronica SQ. These are actual scans of the negatives taken and developed by me. :)
