Building Walking

I was fortunate enough to be contacted by Hubbell Building Automation, Inc. They totally tricked out the new Las Cruces City hall and I got to walk the new building taking photographs of their products that are used within the building. There is certainly a different approach to taking photos of inanimate objects over people because they just never seem to smile! But I love the non-breakneck speed that one can take to product application photography. I would love to book more commercial work, this was quite a fun assignment!

Boondogglin’

On the longer weekends it is customary for me and a bunch of friends to pile into a car and just drive off with only a vague destination in mind. New Mexico is great like that, and one doesn’t have to travel far from Las Cruces to get a total change in scenery. It also makes for some great photographic moments. One of these days I promise myself I will take my 4×5 large format camera and really get some serious landscape photos. Though this time I just went with my trusty canon and my point and shoot, of which I used the point and shoot much more. It just is more convenient. So enjoy the pictures from the little boondoggle this weekend and I hope everyone had a great MLK Jr. Day!

Congratulations!

For those of you who have seen the engagement section on my webpage, you may remember a sweet couple up there! I had the honor of taking their engagement photos and then later in December was honored again for doing some maternity photos. I was just informed that they had their baby boy so I think a big congratulations is in order! Maybe if you all are in Las Cruces, family photos will be in order! Or perhaps I can just schlep all my photo gear over to you all and get some lovely photos of the new addition to your family! ![]()

Is Film Dead?
November 3, 2009 | Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
I have been really itching to do some film photography again. No good cause has arisen yet. I did have a large format project to photograph Las Cruces at night in various settings, but until I can make a way to easily develop large format negatives in my bathroom that will have to hold. I do love the process of film, taking an image from the freshly opened pack of film to a finished and washed fiber based print is just an awesome experience. Very time consuming ones. When I photograph weddings here in Las Cruces I usually shoot digital, but once I would love a bride to request Film. Man to spend some time in the darkroom on a one of a kind print for a bride would be a lovely treat and art at its best. So some images I have taken only semi-recently with my Seagull TLR and my Bronica SQ. These are actual scans of the negatives taken and developed by me. ![]()

Lo-Fi

Sometimes you don’t have your Canon 50D on ya and all you have is one of the latest (and not to shabby) cell phone cameras. With a little attention to light and composition, you can still eek out quite a nice image. This one here was taken with my G1 phone’s 3MP camera. I took a break from the hustle and bustle of photographing in Las Cruces and decided to snap a few pics during my trip to San An. Most the images are LoFi either taken with my cell phone or my point and shoot. It was a nice little excursion and even hit six flags, might post some of those photos later (roller coasters are actually quite artistic pieces of engineering).
A sending off

Went to Tucson a few weeks ago to see a friend off to Japan. She just arrived there and said it was absolutely amazing. The trip from Las Cruces to Tucson wasn’t so bad, so it was no sweat going up there for a little farewell party. I even stayed here at this hotel, and they give you free warm cookies when you check in, how awesome is that?

Crystal and Jeremiah

A lovely wedding at a lovely venue. In late July I photographed the wedding of Crystal & Jeremiah at the Zin Valle Vineyards just outside of Las Cruces, NM. The venue was great and the couple was lovely. The wedding was outdoors, but everyone had a smile on their face, even in the late July heat. The groom looked great in full dress and of course the bride looked lovely as well. It was a great ceremony and fun reception. Everyone including us had a fun a time! See all their photos here.

It was also special because for the first time I am introducing my “Wedding Day Mosaic”. This is a lovely collection of your wedding day memories in an 11×14 frame with a very classic black and white look. The images used are actual card stock to that are cut to sizes about half of a business cards. It is a lovely thank you from me to you for choosing me to photograph your very special day. This is included FREE with every wedding!

Summer Storms

One thing I love bout these hot months here in Las Cruces is the summer monsoons. About every afternoon starting around July is filled with storms in the afternoon and evening that light up the sky. Sometimes I get lucky and the storms come with little rain, and are at a safe enough distance I can go and capture them with my camera. I wait darn near all year for these events and I will go even late night to capture these beauties. I am a little sad the Monsoons are drawing to an end, maybe august will still provide for some great lightning shows that I can photograph.
Vacation!

Sometimes, especially when on vacation you just don’t want to lug around your big old digital SLR and other equipment. Sometimes it is very handy to have a nice point and shoot along, glad I had my Olympus 850 SW on me to get this image of the Coronado Bay Bridge in San Diego. Here in Las Cruces, we don’t see a lot of water, let alone get to go out on a harbor excursion so this image is one of my favorites I captured while on the boat. I like it cause it has a very film feeling to me
